Fiery Hot Yoga

So, I’m housesitting for about three weeks in one of the nicest houses I have ever been. It’s up near Reed College in the SW hills of Portland, i.e. where all the richy richies live. This house has FOUR – no joke – fireplaces. I knew as soon as I toured the house that I would have to create some sort of hot yoga situation near the fireplace (with the screen between us, obviously).

I got home around six and had about an hour and a half of phone calls to make for work, so I threw together a quick dinner to eat while working before my yoga endeavor. I ate a huge apple on my way home so I wasn’t super starving.

I made a salad of spring greens, chickpeas, yellow squash, cucumber, and TJ’s spicy hummus. That was the first time I tried it, and it had a kick! Yum. I also had a few pieces of TJ’s kalamata olive ciabatta on the side… with butter. What a badass. I wish.

This scene is the story of my life for how I eat my meals if I’m alone. I have a date with my computer, blackberry, daily planner, and to-do list. You know how pretty much all health advisory type people say to eat consciously and without distraction? Yeah, I don’t do that so much. Act as I say, not as I do. Hey, at least I’m at the kitchen counter and not at my office desk!

After I felt moderately digested, I threw my yoga mat down in front of the fireplace, put on a Dave Farmer power yoga podcast, and yoga-ed out for an hour.

Holy smokes (like fire? smoky? haha… lame), Dave kicked my butt! I don’t know if it was going w/o yoga the last 10 days or the hard interval workout I did yesterday at track, but OMG. Utkatasana was my mortal enemy tonight, and apparently Dave knew that. Yowwwzaaaa holy buns and thighs. What doesn’t kill you just makes you sore-r, right? 🙂 Oh, yeah it’s stronger.

I’ll fill you in on the soreness tomorrow…
